I wrote a poem about cute little sparrows
living in the bushes outside
my apartment windows.
The local paper got the poem
and published it one week later.
I wrote another poem about scrubbing my body clean
with sand in the ocean breakers.
A paper said it was very original
but too weird to publish.
So do I write cute and get published
or write weird
and put my poems in a cardboard box?
A box in my closet
has been filling up lately.
